Cwmaber Infants School regards good, punctual attendance as being vital to the educational progress of the individual and the class. The attendance register is taken, electronically, at the beginning of each morning and afternoon session and follows the attendance codes from Caerphilly.
Cwmaber Infants gives a high priority to attendance conveying to parents and pupils that regular attendance is vital and that unauthorised absence is unacceptable.
After carrying out significant research, the Welsh Government is placing strong emphasis on improving attendance levels in all schools.
The research carried out clearly shows that the more regularly a child attends school, the more they will learn and achieve. The Welsh Government challenges all pupils to attend for at least 97% of the school year. This would mean that they have no more than 6 days off from school each year (for any reason). The Callio attendance campaign is the chosen method of raising awareness of the attendance goals.
A key part of the Callio strategy is keeping parents and carers informed of attendance levels, and the category into which they fall.
GREEN – Attendance above 96.1%
AMBER – Attendance between 91% and 96%
RED – Attendance below 90%
